Palma Pictures partners with The Cabo Agency

Palma Pictures partners with The Cabo Agency

Palma Pictures and The Cabo Agency form a cross-territory alliance connecting Spain, Portugal and Mexico, reflecting a broader shift in how production service companies are evolving to meet the demands of global unscripted storytelling.

There has always been an international nature to unscripted production. Stories travel, formats adapt, and audiences increasingly expect content that feels both globally relevant and locally authentic. What is changing is how production service companies are structuring themselves to deliver on that expectation.

Rather than scaling through physical expansion alone, there is a growing move towards strategic partnerships between companies rooted in different territories, each bringing established expertise, infrastructure and relationships on the ground.

It is within this context that Palma Pictures has formed a new partnership with The Cabo Agency, a Mexico-based production services company with a strong track record in unscripted television.

Originally founded as a luxury travel concierge, The Cabo Agency has evolved into a production partner working across some of the industry’s most high profile reality and factual entertainment formats. Their work spans large scale, logistically complex shoots across Mexico, supported by deep local knowledge and trusted access.

The partnership connects Palma Pictures’ established presence across Spain and Portugal with Cabo’s offering in Mexico, creating a complementary network that allows both companies to support productions moving between Spain, Portugal and Mexico.

At its core, the collaboration is designed to be practical. As Paul Abrey, Managing Director of Palma Pictures, states: “The strongest partnerships happen when both sides share the same standards. This isn’t just about geography - it’s about trust, judgment, and knowing how to protect a production’s time and budget. When that exists on both sides of the Atlantic, clients feel it immediately.

There’s a shared understanding of how these productions need to work,” he says. “It’s not just about access to locations, it’s about how you support a production from the inside out. Having that mirrored in another territory creates a level of continuity that’s incredibly valuable.”

Each company will introduce projects within their respective markets, support each other through the bidding process, and provide on the ground local expertise across locations, crew and production workflows. For clients, it offers a more joined up approach to navigating multi territory shoots, without losing the nuance and specificity that strong local partners bring.

From Palma Pictures’ perspective, the move reflects a wider evolution already underway within the company. Palma Pictures has been refining its positioning not just as a production service company, but as a partner that can operate fluidly across different formats, territories and production models. The expansion of its unscripted offering has been a key part of that shift, led by Executive Producer Steve Evans, whose experience spans a broad range of factual and entertainment programming.

He says; “Unscripted production increasingly demands flexibility. You’re often moving quickly between locations, dealing with changing conditions, and needing teams who can respond in real time. Having trusted partners in key territories makes a tangible difference to how smoothly that process runs.”

For The Cabo Agency, the partnership offers a reciprocal connection into the European market, where Palma Pictures has long standing relationships and a reputation for delivering complex international shoots.

Founder and Producer Jason Hollander, at The Cabo Agency say; “This partnership wasn’t about expanding for the sake of expansion. It was about identifying the strongest possible partner for our clients. Productions today need leaner operations, faster answers, and fewer surprises. When both sides know their territory inside and out, clients get better strategy, better execution, and ultimately far more production value for the same budget.”

Beyond project delivery, the two companies will also collaborate across marketing and outreach, jointly promoting their capabilities to their respective networks and creating opportunities for cross market visibility.

While formal partnerships between production companies are not new, they are becoming more considered and more integral to how companies operate.

In an environment where budgets are scrutinised, timelines are compressed and productions are increasingly international by default, the ability to tap into trusted, like minded partners is becoming less of an advantage and more of a necessity.

For Palma Pictures, the collaboration with The Cabo Agency is less about expansion for its own sake, and more about strengthening a model that reflects how production is actually happening today.

Connected. Collaborative. And increasingly, borderless.
