Filming in Mallorca: How We Supported ‘The Last Sunrise'”
Five weeks across Mallorca's fortresses, villages and coastline and one scene that never left our studio floor.
The Last Sunrise premiered on Prime Video on 26 August, starring Maia Reficco, alongside Fernando Lindez and Eva Longoria. The story follows Ry, a young woman who travels to Mallorca with her mother and finds a summer romance that changes her life.
The film arrives with an audience already built in. It's adapted from Anna Todd's 2025 novel of the same name — the author behind the global After franchise, whose fanbase has followed her from page to screen more than once. That kind of built-in anticipation is part of why a five-week shoot on Mallorca became international news before the film had even premiered.
And the island holds its own alongside the cast. Over five weeks of filming in the summer of 2025, the production moved through a range of settings rarely seen in a single project: a 17th-century clifftop fortress, standing in as the luxury hotel where Ry stays. Stone-built villages in the Serra de Tramuntana. Two secluded coves and a fishing village that still keeps its colourful boats, on the south-east coast. And points across Palma and its historic old town. All of it within easy reach of one another — the kind of range that makes Mallorca work as a set for almost any story.
Supporting a shoot like this means moving cast, crew and equipment between a clifftop fortress, mountain villages and stretches of coast without losing a single shooting day — the kind of logistics that never makes it into a trailer, but is what makes days like these possible. It also meant casting at scale: our own Casting Department sourced 863 background extras for the production. Palma Pictures supported the production for Amazon MGM Studios, from start to finish, with David Ramón as Line Producer leading the local team. Even the one scene that wasn't shot on a real location on the island — the private jet interior that opens the film — was built entirely on our stage.
Since its premiere, The Last Sunrise has quickly become one of Prime Video's most-watched titles — proof, once again, that Mallorca doesn't just play a backdrop well. It plays a lead.
Stories like this are the ones we most enjoy telling, crafted with care, wherever the camera happens to be.
